It Rained!!
I guess the title of this post is pretty dumb bearing in mind the weather parts of the rest of Australia is getting, but unlike those areas we really needed it… and still do for that matter. The water race is dry and that’s because the Plenty River is low. Everywhere is really crispy dry, we’ve had horrendus bush fires in many different areas and we just need rain! There’s more forecast for tomorrow and Thursday too, but only showers unfortunately. Better than nothing though!
I’ve been working on the garden area at the front of the house for the past few days, digging a trench for concrete footings for the low wall at the front of the verandah. It’s been slow, hard going and the ground is very dry and hard. There’s that word again….. dry!
Today I first hit an old French Drain and getting through the coarse gravel on top of that was hard with the shovel. Luckily after I’d got most of the gravel out the plastic drainage pipe came out pretty easily. I’ve got most of it dug now and the next bit is to box it up ready to put concrete in.
I reckon I might get some photos on tomorrow so if anyone’s interested, watch this space, as they say.
Changing the subject completely, yesterday the sole came off of one of my Caterpillar work boots, which I’ve had for about 9 months. One thing you have to have is a good pair of work boots and I think the Caterpillar one are brilliant! Trouble is, the soles seem to have come off! About 3 weeks ago the right one came off and I fixed it and yesterday the other one decided to fall off too!
When I fixed the first one, a colleague at work wanted to know how I repaired it as he didn’t have a clue about stuff like that so I thought I’d describe how I fixed the second one this afternoon. I took photos while I did it and I’ll get them on here pretty soon, maybe even tomorrow.
My partner has made a heap of tomato sauce in the last week from excess tomatoes she had in the garden and boy is it nice! It’s real easy to do, even a bloke could do it so I’m going to help out with the next batch and put it on here. It really beats the bought stuff!!
Back soon.
