Well it’s been a while since I posted so I thought I’d better get back to it.

The summer is really starting to bite now and everywhere is very brown and dry. The fires further up the valley have been a big worry but luckily have not come this way. No so lucky for some though. The fires on the peninsular were awful.

I’ve been trying to keep my tanks full but unfortunately the water race ran out of water. That was a big worry!!

The race is fed from the Plenty River and is controlled by 2 gates, one at the river and one about 500 metres from there.

Well, the one at the river was blocked and once we’d cleared that water poured in. The main problem was at the head of the race where the water is diverted to the Salmon Ponds nearby and into the race. That was leaking and water was pouring away to the side of it. Once we’d fixed that then we were off again and water started running into the race.

One really fascinating thing is that we were watched by a platypus as we were repairing the leak! That was special and I’ll have to try and get a photo of it.

It took about a day for the race to fill again.
